  Instrumental Music

Whether you are a beginner or more experienced on an instrument there are many options for students to learn to play and read music. 

Guitar Lab and Percussion do not require an audition and are recommended for students looking to gain experience or confidence in their musicianship and performance skills. Percussion, Band, and Wind Band are all required to participate in Marching Band. Jazz Band is a zero period.

 

Guitar Lab

Students will develop musicianship through study of the guitar. Primary study will emphasize individual skills (technique, scales, chords, songs). Other components address, music theory, history and song writing. 

Jazz Lab

Prerequisite: ​Audition and concurrent enrollment in a performance course is required. 

 

Jazz Lab students learn to perform and identify a variety of jazz styles. Students will develop proficiency in jazz through performance, improvisation, jazz theory, technical exercises, listening, transcription, composition and history. Students will perform at school concerts, athletic events, festivals, contests and other functions.

Orchestra

Prerequisite: ​Prior violin, viola, cello or acoustic bass experience. 

 

Students will develop musicianship through the study of the finest string literature, excellent method books emphasizing individual and ensemble techniques, solo/ensemble literature, music theory, composition and history. Students will perform at concerts, school events, contests and festivals. 

Percussion

Prerequisite: ​None

 

 

Students will develop musicianship through the study of the wind band, marching band, pep band and method books, emphasizing individual and ensemble techniques, solo/ensemble literature, music theory, composition and history. Students perform at concerts, contest, festivals, athletic and community events.

Primary instruments of study: snare drum, mallet instruments (xylophone, vibraphone, marimba) and timpani. Additional instruments will include drum set, bass drum, cymbals and world percussion. All students in Band are required to perform at all assigned events.

Students in this class are also afforded the opportunity to perform as members of the Lincoln Percussion Ensemble in the winter, (which requires after school and weekend commitments). 

Band: Concert Band

Prerequisite: ​Director Approval or previous experience on Trumpet, French horn, Trombone, Baritone/Euphonium or Tuba required. All students are expected to perform in the Marching Band. 

 

Students enrolled in Band are part of our concert band, marching band, football and basketball pep bands. 

Students will develop musicianship through the study of the wind band, marching band, pep band and method books, emphasizing individual and ensemble techniques, solo/ensemble literature, music theory, composition and history. Students perform at concerts, contests, festivals, marching band events, athletic and community events. All students in Band are required to perform at all assigned events.

Wind Ensemble

Prerequisite: ​Audition on Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Euphonium/Baritone, Tuba or Percussion. 

 

This ensemble is designed for our most advanced band students. Students will develop musicianship through the study of the finest wind band literature available, excellent method books emphasizing individual and ensemble techniques, solo/ensemble literature, music theory, composition and history. Students interested in percussion should enroll in Percussion rather than Wind Ensemble. Students will perform at concerts, marching band events, athletic events, school events, contests and festivals. ​
